The Icing on the Cake Server

I'm a Gemini through and through. Cookbook holders had damned well better be functional and corkscrews must perform or else. But cake servers? Well, my passion for shoes changes everything.

When my sister found this stylish and functional cake server at Symmetry in Elora, she just couldn't resist. And neither could I.

Sure, I've "borrowed" this from her "for my blog", but I'm going to take my sweet time returning it.

Whoever designed this cutting edge shoe tribute knew what they were doing. The princess heel turns a regular utensil into a fashionable conversation piece. And when you're ready to slice? The clever culinary engineer created a detachable magnetic heel. Yes ladies, you can slice your cake and have haute cuisine, too.

I'm so impressed with this whimsical utensil I made a Honey Carrot Cake just so I could test drive it.

The serrated edge slices neatly and the pieces come out clean.

The cake's pretty spiffy, too. But with a post a day in the month of May, I'm saving the recipe details for tomorrow. Stay tuned because this cake will answer Lisa's question, "How can you cut baking fat without sacrificing taste?"

In the meantime, I'll contemplate a trip to Elora. Where else can you get a shoe for $13 that won't hurt your feet?

Very ingenious design without a doubt!
The cake looks delicious and you said "low fat" wow, I'll have to return for that recipe.

P.s. I love reading your blog!

Yes, Francesca, it's low fat. But keep in mind, the recipe does have eggs and cream cheese icing.

The recipe's up now. If you make it, I'd love to hear how it goes for you.

I'm now really tempted to try this with other cakes...

What will designers think of next?!?! I have a foodie/shoe-y friend for whom this would also be a perfect gift. So thanks.

Thank you Charmian, I think I'll give it a try and will let you know.
I was browsing today on Quebec Street and saw the "shoe cake lifters" in La Creme for $11.95. Didn't buy one since I have several cake cutting knives but the price was right. They've lovely- very "sharply" serrated.

La Creme, eh? That's much closer than Elora for me. Thanks for letting me know.

And yes, the serrated edge is VERY sharp! Found that out the hard way.
