Out Out Damn Spam!

Thanks to Jill for suggesting I use this video! It sums up how I feel!

My apologies to Shakespeare, Monty Python and you.

Because of a recent spate of spam comments, I have activated the dreaded word verification function on my comments section. I hate to make it harder for you to post, but I despise links to Asian porn and knock-off handbags even more.

The move to the new blog platform is slated for October 1st. WordPress's spam filter eliminates the need for word verification or moderation, so it'll be business as usual at that time.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I hope this doesn't stop you from commenting. Reader response is a vital part of this blog. I couldn't do it without you, so please forgive the inconvenience for the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for understanding.

Charmian

I feel your pain. I had to institute comment moderation on http://travel-babel.blogspot.com after a steady stream of hotel booking spams from India, Pakistan and Indonesia.

And bizarrely, my culinary post called "Celebration & Sadness at Frasca" reporting on the a local chef on "Top Chef Masters" who did not make it to the next round resulted in Chinese/Japanese spam every couple of days. I have deleted them all but was curious, so asked on writers' organization forums whether anyone read the language. Turns out the spams were from singles' matching businesses that must have thought someone was dumped or died or something, leaving a bereaved but yearning partner.

If you want to see that post, go to http://culinary-colorado.blogspot.com/2009/07/celebration-sadness-at-frasca.html

Wouldn't it be nice if people with this kind of talent could direct it towards something useful, instead of bothering you with perverted marketing schemes. No worries about typing in the extra word! (especially because your word is clear -- I hate when I can't figure them out and feel like I'm failing an IQ test, lol)

Thanks to everyone for understanding and being so supportive!

Claire, I feel your pain. Funny how they target their posts. Not sure what it was about my Eat Local that caught the pornographers eye... wait. Maybe I do...

And a BIG THANKS to Jill for pointing out my obvious omission -- Monty Python! As you can see, I added the video. Enjoy!!!

Dear Charmain,
No worries. You know how I feel about all kinds of SPAM since John came home with a tin of it when he was sent to the store for some real food. I assure you it was not on the list. Funnily enough he was actually proud of himself.
Keep posting and we will too.
Next time you have a long car trip you might want to borrow my Monty Python CD.
Love,
Robin

Oh, the poor misunderstood, under-appreciated SPAM...just today I ran across a site that had a recipe for Teriyaki SPAM Musubi...a very popular snack in Hawaii: (http://chezannie.blogspot.com)

Not a problem to do the word verification as it is on lots of other sites...sad but true.

Robin, I can see John coming home with a can of Spam and feeling rather chuffed. Did you make him eat it? Oh wait. He's a salt fiend. He'd love the stuff.

Vivian, Teriyaki Spam Musubi?? I'm speechless. Totally speechless.

Thanks for understanding about the word verification. After a year without it I was sad to reactivate it. Oh well, I'm moving to Wordpress soon and such annoyances will be a thing of the past.

No problem at all ... and thanks for the chuckle with that video. Love it!

Oh my god, that's the best video ever. Even though I had to turn it off after 2 minutes. (I can only take so much Monty Python, I'll admit.)

I just learned that my blog is suddenly popular in Macao. This can mean only 1 thing: Macaoan spammers have discovered me. I'm afraid of what may result.

Bah, I have had mine set for ages, It is such a pain otherwise!

Meanwhile I am totally enjoying akismet on my other blog. So it seems worth it.

How are you planning to move your page rank? I am waiting until my domain is fully recognized (i.e. google doesn't list my blogspot address) before I move to wordpress.

That video is hilarious!! Loved it.
It only takes a sec to type in a few letters, so it's fine. I don't mind at all.
